Columbia Harbour House - Disney's Magic Kingdom

In July, my daughters and I had lunch at Columbia Harbour House, one of our favorite quick service restaurants at Disney's Magic Kingdom.

I love that I can mobile order my food in the My Disney Experience app, and skip the long lines at the restaurant.

The Plaza Restaurant - Disney's Magic Kingdom

There are two reasons that we go to The Plaza Restaurant in the Magic Kingdom at Disney World - milkshakes and Chef Ken.

The Plaza Restaurant is a table service restaurant located at the end of Main Street, U.S.A. I had lunch there with my daughters in July, during our summer trip to Disney World.

Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen - Magic Kingdom

In July, we had lunch at Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen, the Jungle Cruise themed restaurant in Adventureland at the Magic Kingdom.

Skipper Canteen, which is staffed by the crew of the fun loving Jungle Navigation Co. LTD, features Asian, South American, and African cuisine. The chefs at Skipper Canteen have put together an impressive allergy-friendly menu. It lists options for people with gluten/wheat, milk, egg, soy, fish/shellfish, and peanut/tree nut allergies. If gluten/wheat is listed under a dish on the menu, it is safe to eat. On a previous visit, a chef told me that they only use gluten free tamari soy sauce in the restaurant, which shows Disney's commitment to serving people with special diets.

Purple Wall Slushy - Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant

Last week, my daughters and I tried the purple wall slushy at Tomorrowland Terrace, a quick service restaurant in Disney's Magic Kingdom.

The slushy was created to commemorate the Purple Wall, a popular photo spot in Tomorrowland, right next to Tomorrowland Terrace.

Columbia Harbour House - Magic Kingdom

Earlier today, we stopped at Columbia Harbour House, a quick service restaurant in Liberty Square at the Magic Kingdom, to check out their new allergy-friendly chicken tenders.

Columbia Harbour House has long been my favorite restaurant for allergy-friendly chicken tenders at Disney World, and it is featured in My Disney Top 10 - Quick Service post.  We dined there so often in the first year or two we lived in Orlando, that the managers started to recognize me when we came in.  They used to bake the chicken tenders and fries, which took about 20 minutes, but now they have a dedicated fryer, so allergy orders that are fried don't take that long to prepare.

Fairytale Dining Dinner at Cinderella's Royal Table - Magic Kingdom

Last night, we had dinner at Cinderella's Royal Table, a signature dining restaurant located inside Cinderella Castle in the Magic Kingdom.

Cinderella's Royal table is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and a meal there should be on everyone's Disney bucket list.  Since moving to Orlando eight years ago, we have had dinner there on two previous occasions, and enjoyed our meals.

This past weekend, I stopped at Cinderella's Castle in the Magic Kingdom to check out their allergy-friendly menus, which list options for people with gluten/wheat, milk, egg, soy, fish/shellfish, and peanut/tree nut allergies.

Dining at Cinderella's Royal Table should be on everyone's Disney bucket list.  Since moving to Orlando, we have had dinner there twice, and both times enjoyed the food and the experience of dining in Cinderella's Castle.

The Plaza Restaurant - Magic Kingdom

Last Saturday, we had lunch at The Plaza Restaurant, a table service restaurant located at the end of Main Street, U.S.A. in the Magic Kingdom.

We love to go the Magic Kingdom in early September, because the summer crowds are gone, and the Halloween decorations are up.  We can pretend the fall is coming soon, even though the daily high temperature is still 90 degrees in September.

Be Our Guest Breakfast - King Gluten Free

I have followed Jordan Middlebrook's blog King Gluten Free for a while, and had the pleasure of meeting him last November at the Food Allergy & Celiac Convention at Disney World.  Jordan, like myself, loves everything Disney, as evidenced by the Mickey pancakes he is always posting on Instagram, and he even proposed to his wife at the Magic Kingdom.  For their 10th anniversary, he surprised her with a trip to Disney World, where his family dined at Be Our Guest for breakfast.  Here is Jordan's guest review of his recent dining experience:

The Crystal Palace - Magic Kingdom

Last night, we had dinner at the Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom.  We have never had breakfast at the Crystal Palace, but we have eaten lunch and dinner there many times since moving to Orlando.  It has always been one of our favorite buffets at Disney, and we enjoy seeing Winnie the Pooh and friends while we dine.

Make sure you check out the topiaries of Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, and Tigger as you enter the Crystal Palace, a building that was inspired by Victorian greenhouses of the late 1800s.

Very quickly, a chef came out to take me on a tour of the buffet, which wasn't very crowded at 4:30 when we were seated.

I came back to the table with two large plates of food.  On my first plate, I have the peel-and-eat shrimp, sweet potato salad, roasted plantain salad, and Yukon Gold mashed potatoes.

I also chose the following gluten free options: Mediterranean sauteed chicken with feta cheese, tomato, basil, and garlic; tilapia with citrus beurre blanc and spring vegetables; roasted salmon with Asian style pesto; fire roasted corn spoonbread; rice; and a new pork dish that they are testing out, that disappeared before I could take a picture of the sign.

I later visited the carving station to pick up some turkey and sirloin steak, and I couldn't resist a second helping of the spoonbread while I was up at the buffet.  It has always been my favorite dish at the Crystal Palace.

The only desserts on the buffet that are gluten free are the vanilla and chocolate soft serve, and the coconut flan, which my family raved about, but I did not try, because I don't like coconut.  The chef said she could bring me a chocolate chip cookie, or a house made brownie from the back.  My daughters and I have always loved the gluten free brownie with vanilla soft serve on top.  They told me it was as good as the gluten-filled brownies they had from the buffet.

I enjoyed every dish I tried last night, but my favorites were the spoonbread, tilapia, salmon, the sweet potato and roasted plantain salads, and my dessert.  I actually enjoyed this meal more than our dinner at Boma last weekend.  The Crystal Palace can be very pricey though, especially for dinner.  One tip our server gave us it to book the last lunch seating at 2:45, so you get to enjoy some lunch dishes like the flank steak and ham at the carving station, before the dinner items start coming out at 3:00.  The only differences between lunch and dinner are the price, the meats at the carving station, and the peel-and-eat shrimp.

I love the ambiance at the Crystal Palace, and all the great pictures of my daughters with the characters that I have taken over the years.  Tusker House Restaurant and the Crystal Palace are definitely my favorite restaurants for character dining at Disney World.

You can make advance dining reservations for the Crystal Palace on Disney's website here.

Liberty Tree Tavern - Magic Kingdom

I can now say that I have dined at every table service restaurant in the Magic Kingdom.  You won't find reviews of all of them on my blog, because we have not eaten at Cinderella's Royal Table or the Crystal Palace in a couple of years, but I highly recommend both of them for lunch or dinner.

We have probably never dined at Liberty Tree Tavern before, because I knew they served a traditional family-style Thanksgiving dinner, which didn't interest me.  I am pretty particular about the dishes served on Thanksgiving, which is my favorite meal of the year.  I didn't think any restaurant could possibly compete with the smoked turkey, cornbread stuffing, cranberry relish, garlic mashed potatoes, and cream cheese pumpkin pie my family makes on Thanksgiving.

Just this week, I found out that Liberty Tree Tavern no longer features Disney characters, and for lunch, they have an a la carte menu.  Yep, I am really behind on the times when it comes to this restaurant.  Two days ago, I was able to get advance dining reservations for lunch today, so we decided to go for it, and finally try the Liberty Tree Tavern for the first time.

Liberty Tree Tavern reminded me of Colonial Williamsburg, and has six rooms that commemorate an important figure in American history.  We sat in the Betsy Ross room, and were served water in Liberty Tree Tavern mugs.

Chef Jennifer came out very quickly to discuss gluten free options with me.  I now realize that I didn't ask about appetizers, but for entrees, I could choose from the New England Pot Roast, the Pilgrim's Feast, Colony Salad, the Angus Chuck Cheeseburger on a gluten free bun, or The Liberty Boys BLT on a gluten free bun.  For dessert, Chef Jennifer mentioned a brownie sundae, sorbet, coconut ice cream, or a chocolate chip cookie.

I ordered the New England Pot Roast with braised beef, mashed potatoes, and garden vegetables.  The beef was flavorful and tender, and the mashed potatoes were the perfect side for this dish.  I also loved the onions, but gave all the carrots and celery to my husband, because they are not my favorite vegetables.

My husband ordered the gluten free version of the Pilgrim's Feast, which is traditional roast turkey served with herb bread stuffing, mashed potatoes, and a garden vegetable (green beans).  The turkey was nice and moist, and the mashed potatoes on his dish were just as good as mine, though I enjoyed them more eaten with my beef.  I was really impressed that the chefs at Liberty Tree Tavern are making a gluten free stuffing, but I have only found one stuffing recipe that I like, and it is the cornbread stuffing I serve on Thanksgiving.  My husband thought everything on his plate was good, including the stuffing.  I didn't sample the gluten free gravy that was brought to the table, because I don't like gravy, but Mitch tried it, and said it was ok. He much preferred the side of gluten-filled gravy that the chef had sent out for him.

Because we were so full after eating our turkey and pot roast, we decided to skip dessert at Liberty Tree Tavern.  We all enjoyed our meals, and I am glad we finally tried Liberty Tree Tavern, but I would probably go back to The Plaza Restaurant, Be Our Guest, Tony's Town Square Restaurant, Crystal Palace, or Cinderella's Royal Table before dining here again.

You can read more about Liberty Tree Tavern, view the lunch & dinner menu, and made advance dining reservations on Disney's website here.
