We always eat breakfast at Mariposa's San Francisco Ferry Building Bakeshop, which you can read about here. Last weekend, my husband and I split a Pain au Chocolat and an apple turnover, my new favorite pastry at Mariposa. When we lived in Orlando, I used to order the Pain au Chocolat online. Mariposa does ship a selection of their baked goods, but they are best fresh from one of their bakeshops.

Gluten Free in San Francisco
Since moving to California last July, we have been to San Francisco four times. It is an hour and a half from where we live, so it makes for a fun day trip.

Asian Box - California
Last updated March 3, 2019
Yesterday, we spent the day in San Francisco. We started with breakfast at Mariposa, a 100% gluten free bakeshop in the Ferry Building. After stuffing ourselves full of gluten free almond bear claws, cinnamon buns, Pain au Chocolat, and a yummy tart, we walked down to Pier 39 to see the sea lions, then took a Gold Rush walking tour of the city. Originally, our plan was to have an early dinner at Pica Pica Arepa Kitchen, a 100% gluten free restaurant featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, that we first dined at three years ago on our last visit to San Francisco.
As the day wore on, and we talked about having a lighter dinner, we decided to go to Asian Box, which was within walking distance of our Gold Rush tour.

Mariposa Baking Co.
In the summer of 2013, we took a trip to California, because my brother-in-law was getting married in Temecula. Before the wedding, we spent a few days in Disneyland, and after the wedding, we flew up to San Francisco. While we were in San Francisco, I had breakfast every morning at Mariposa's San Francisco Ferry Building Bakeshop.
This blurry picture is the only one I could find of the baked goods I had from Mariposa while we were in San Francisco. Mariposa's bear claws might be the best gluten free pastries I have ever had. The bear claws, which are gluten, dairy & soy free, have an almond filling that reminds me of the almond croissants I used to love pre-celiac.
