Grand Floridian Cafe Lunch - Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Yesterday, we had lunch at the Grand Floridian Cafe at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

The Grand Floridian Cafe, a table service restaurant, serves American classics for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  I have had amazing meals at The Grand Floridian Cafe for breakfast and dinner, so I was excited to dine there for lunch, and see their new allergy-friendly menus, which list options for people with gluten/wheat, milk, egg, soy, fish/shellfish, and peanut/tree nut allergies.

Gluten/wheat friendly appetizers include the chilled shrimp and avocado, seasonal soup, seasonal salad, and French onion soup.  For an entree, I could choose from the tuna nicoise salad, Caesar salad, The Original Cobb Salad, The Cafe Sandwich, rustic chicken sandwich, reuben sandwich, surf and turf burger, sustainable catch, New York strip steak, and pasta with chicken, prosciutto and peas.

Seasonal sorbet, vanilla frozen dessert, allergy-friendly assorted cookies, chocolate fondue, berry pyramid with mango sauce, and the allergy-friendly brownie are gluten free options on the allergy-friendly dessert menu.  Guests ages 9 and under that cannot eat gluten can order the sliced apples, fruit salad, carrot and celery sticks, grilled chicken, fresh fillet of salmon, meaty macaroni, cheese pizza, chicken tenders, and worms in dirt.

If you have read my dinner review of the Grand Floridian Cafe, you might remember that I am a huge fan of the surf and turf burger, which used to be called the Grand Floridian Burger.  This Angus chuck burger is topped with sauteed lobster, red onion marmalade and arugula, and is served on a GNI gluten free bun.  On the regular menu, the burger is described as having butter-poached lobster, so if you can eat dairy, be sure to request the butter.  On the allergy-friendly menu, this dish is listed as being safe for people with gluten/wheat, egg, fish, milk, peanut/tree nut and soy allergies, so the butter must have been eliminated from the description to make the burger safe for people with a dairy allergy.  I love the combination of the Angus burger and lobster with the sweet onion marmalade and the peppery arugula.  My husband and I both agree that this is the best burger on Disney property.  My only beef with my burger yesterday (sorry, I couldn't help myself) was that it was served to me undercooked not once, but twice.  Since watching Food, Inc., I always order my hamburgers medium well or well done, but both of my burgers were cooked much less than what I requested.  I enjoyed my meal, but I don't want to see that much pink in my burger.  Our server and the manager were very apologetic, and the burger was removed from our bill.

The surf and turf burger is served with homemade chips, which oddly enough, were not mentioned on the allergy-friendly menu.  Yesterday, the chips were a mix of potato, taro, and plantain, and were served with a side of very tasty mango ketchup.

My gluten-eating family loved their surf & turf burger, and the orecchiette pasta of the day with chicken, peas, and an asiago cream sauce.
