Trattoria al Forno Dinner - Disney's BoardWalk

Last week, my daughters and I had dinner at Trattoria al Forno on Disney's BoardWalk, which is a short walk from the back entrance of Epcot.

Trattoria al Forno has been one of our favorite Disney restaurants for breakfast and dinner since it opened,  I am excited to try their new Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast when we return in November.  You can read a guest review on my blog here.

Trattoria al Forno uses gluten free breadcrumbs in all of their dishes, which means that fried calamari, meatballs, and chicken Parmesan are all safe options.  Most allergy-friendly menus at Disney World will only include dishes that meet the standard of being safe for at least four allergies.  If you see a dish you are interested in on the regular menu, and it is not on the allergy-friendly menu, have your server check for you or ask to speak to a chef.

My mom is a big fan of the Pesce al Forno Intero, which is a whole-roasted fish with seasonal vegetables and charred lemon.

The Italian Garden - Meringue Mushroom S'mores were on Trattoria al Forno's old gluten free kids' menu, so they might still be gluten free.

Trattoria al Forno recently started serving Deanna's allergy free dinner rolls, my favorite gluten free bread at Disney World.  My first batch was still cold in the middle, so I sent them back.  My second set of rolls were heated perfectly, and I ended up eating both of them with butter.

The main reason I like to go to Trattoria al Forno for dinner is that they have the best gluten free calamari at Disney World.  Their calamari fritti is served with crispy pepperoncini and balsamic agrodolce.  The breading is always crispy and well seasoned, and the calamari is perfectly accompanied by the agrodolce, which is both sweet and tart.

My family and I love this dish so much, I ordered two of them, assuming my girls would be asking me to share.  My gluten-eating daughters each got their own entree though, so they only ate a few pieces of my calamari, which was ok, because that just meant more for me.  Emma ordered the Parmigiana di Pollo, which she loves, and Katie chose the Pizza Margherita, one of her favorites.  Trattoria al Forno currently does not offer any gluten free pizzas.

When I saw a server walk by with the Insalata Salad, I regretting not ordering it, because Trattoria al Forno's house-pulled mozzarella with tomatoes and aged balsamic is delicious.  You can read about it in my previous dinner review here.  I did not order an entree, because the rolls and calamari were plenty for me to eat.

For dessert, I had pistachio-stracciatella gelato.  Our server told me that it is not on the allergy-friendly menu, because it is not nut free, which prevents it from reaching the standard of being safe for at least 4 allergies.  The portion seemed a little bigger than on previous visits, and it reminded me of the gelato we had on our last trip to Italy.  It was so good, I will definitely be ordering it the next time we dine at Trattoria al Forno.

Overall, we all loved our meals at Trattoria al Forno, and look forward to having dinner there again in November.  Disney's BoardWalk Villas is one of our Disney Vacation Club home resorts, so it is super convenient to have breakfast and dinner at Trattoria al Forno when we are staying there.
