Provisions & Buzz Co. - Baldwin Park

Last Friday, we had dinner at Provisions & Buzz Co. in Baldwin Park.  The restaurant used to be Jack's Steakhouse, but it was rebranded late last year, and features a new menu and a beautiful new interior.

We arrived right when the restaurant opened at 5:00, because I prefer to eat out when restaurants are not busy.  When I asked our server about gluten free options, she sent out their general manager, who just happens to have celiac.

For a starter, she recommended the B&B Salad with fresh burrata cheese, roasted beets, candied walnuts, lavender honey and beet oil.  The smoked salmon, steak tataki and tuna tartare can also be modified to be gluten free.  For entrees, I could choose the oven roasted half chicken, pork shank, stuffed trout, seafood stew, grouper (no miso), or the filet (no bread pudding).  Unfortunately, none of their desserts are gluten free.

For an entree, I decided to order the lemon and herb rubbed roasted half chicken with roasted potatoes, and zucchini and squash succotash.  The white meat was a little bit dry, but the dark meat was perfectly cooked, and I loved the crispy skin on the chicken.  I thought it was a little undersalted, but that was easily rectified at the table.  The roasted potatoes were very good, but my favorite thing on the plate was their incredible zucchini and squash succotash.  I am not sure what kind of seasoning they used, but my vegetables were delicious.

My husband had his entree marked as a gluten allergy so I could try it.  The pork shank is braised and served over soft goat cheese polenta, with roasted garlic and onion gravy.  Because I don't like goat cheese, it was served on the side, and my husband added it after I tried a few bites.  Both the pork shank and the polenta were so good, I might have to order this dish the next time we dine at Provisions & Buzz.

My gluten-eating family loved their garlic bread and sage gnocchi starters, and my father-in-law raved about the honey miso marinated black grouper.

Provisions & Buzz Co. is located on New Broad Street in Baldwin Park.  I want to try Seito Sushi and The Osprey Tavern next, because I like supporting restaurants in my neighborhood, and I have heard they have some good gluten free options.
