Firebirds Wood Fired Grill - Orlando

Last night, we had dinner at Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, which is located in The Market at Mills Park in front of The Fresh Market.  Firebirds, which serves American cuisine, has restaurants in 18 states.  You can view their restaurant locator here.

I was impressed from the moment I walked in the door.  The restaurant itself is beautiful inside, and equally impressive is their gluten free menu, which you can view online here.

The gluten free menu includes specialty salads, soups, specialties, entrees, sides, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, kids entrees and sides, and a dessert option.

I was in the mood for my favorite fish, so I decided to order the wood grilled salmon basted with key lime butter.  Our server told me that I could choose two sides, so I picked the Parmesan mashed potatoes and spiced pecan green beans.

My grilled salmon was nice and crispy on the outside, which I loved, and it tasted very fresh.  It would have been perfect with a drizzle of key lime butter on top, because I just happen to love butter on fish, so next time, I will ask for some extra butter.

The Parmesan mashed potatoes were amazing, and were the highlight of my meal at Firebirds.  They were slightly creamy, seasoned perfectly, and the portion was huge.

My green beans were cooked well, and I enjoyed the spiced pecans on them, but they could have used a little salt and pepper.

For dessert, I decided to try the flourless chocolate cake, which is described on the menu as a rich chocolate cake topped with vanilla-marinated strawberries.

The cake was not overly sweet, but it is one of those dense, intensely chocolaty cakes that I like, but never love.  The vanilla-marinated strawberries and the whipped cream nicely complimented the cake.  Because it was so rich, I was only able to eat about half of it, but my family willingly jumped in and took a few bites.

Overall, I was really impressed with our meals at Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, and look forward to dining there again soon.  My daughters had a lot to choose from on their Kids' Menu, and each entree is served with two sides, so they had plenty of food.
