Gasparilla Island Grill - Disney's Grand Floridian Resort

Earlier today, I stopped at Gasparilla Island Grill, a quick service restaurant at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, to see their allergy-friendly menus.

Disney's allergy-friendly menus usually include options for people with gluten/wheat, milk, egg, soy, peanut/tree nut and fish/shellfish allergies, but none of the menus I saw today at Gasparilla Island Grill listed any soy free options, which is the first time I have seen this at Disney World.

Gluten/wheat allergy-friendly breakfast options:

  • Bounty platter - scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, and Mickey-shaped waffles
  • Breakfast sandwich - scrambled eggs and cheese with bacon on gluten-friendly bread
  • Mickey-shaped waffles - 3 small Mickey waffles with bacon or sausage
  • Grits

Gluten/wheat allergy-friendly breakfast options for guests ages 9 and under:

  • Frittata - whole eggs, cheddar, and steamed broccoli
  • Breakfast platter - scrambled eggs, grapes, and bacon or sausage
  • Mickey-shaped waffles with grapes and bacon or sausage

Gluten/wheat allergy-friendly lunch/dinner options:

  • Entrees - create-your-own salad, pepperoni flatbread, Margherita flatbread
  • From the grill (served with house-made chips, french fries, or cucumber salad) - Angus hamburger, Angus bacon cheeseburger, grilled chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich, chicken breast tenders
  • Desserts - allergy-friendly brownie, allergy-friendly cookie, soft-serve ice cream

Gluten/wheat allergy-friendly lunch/dinner options for guests ages 9 and under:

  • Kids' meals (served with grapes or carrot sticks) - hamburger, hot dog, chicken tenders
  • Desserts - allergy-friendly brownie, allergy-friendly cookie, jello, applesauce

All kids' meals include choice of small Dasani water or small lowfat milk.  French fries may be substituted upon request.

The second reason that I stopped at Gasparilla Island Grill was to ask whether they had the allergy-friendly chicken tenders, and what brand they were now carrying.  A couple of weeks ago, I found out that there was a shortage of chicken tenders at Disney World, and that it was a supplier issue.  Recently, I heard that Disney might not be carrying AllergyFree Foods Chicken Tenders anymore, and that they were switching to another brand, which is what I was told at Gasparilla Island Grill today.  They had Saffron Road gluten free chicken tenders, which you can read about here.  Well, I couldn't leave the Grand Floridian Resort without trying them, so I decided to have lunch at Gasparilla Island Grill.

While I was paying for my food, I saw some gluten free Larabar chocolate chip cookie dough bars and three varieties of Go Raw bars.

After ordering my food from a chef, I was given a number, and asked if I would be sitting inside or outside, or if I wanted my food to go.

Not too long after I was seated, my food arrived, and there was plenty of it.

The chicken tenders, which were made in a dedicated fryer, were nice and crispy on the outside, and the meat was tender on the inside.  You could tell they were whole breast meat strips, like the AllergyFree Foods chicken tenders I have been eating at Disney for the last seven years.  They were good, but the breading seems to be more strongly seasoned, which may or may not be a good thing, depending on what you are used to.

When I dipped my chicken tenders in ketchup, I barely noticed the difference in taste.  The house-made chips were some of the best I have had at Disney, and I ended up eating them all, even though I had a large breakfast at the Grand Floridian Cafe.

You can read more about Gasparilla Island Grill, and view their menus and hours on Disney's website here.

What are your favorite gluten free dishes at Gasparilla Island Grill?

  1. I LOVE Gasparilla! We stayed at the GF on our last trip and I was stunned at how great they were with gluten free, especially for a counter service. We went for breakfast every day so I could get the Mickey waffles haha! One time the manager even brought out an extra one for me :D

Do you know if there's anywhere else (besides Kona cafe) that does gluten free Mickey Waffles on property? We're staying at the BC on our next trip which I know doesn't have them in the marketplace :/

    1. Katie - click on the Disney page at the top of my blog and check out my post about my favorite restaurants for Disney-themed waffles. From the Beach Club, you can walk to Trattoria al Forno on the BoardWalk. They are at most resorts.
