The week of my 50th birthday, we stayed at Disney's BoardWalk Villas, one of our favorite Disney Vacation Club resorts.
Tuesday night, we had reservations for dinner at Kona Cafe, but no one was overly excited by the menu, and we had eaten a big lunch at Nomad Lounge at Disney's Animal Kingdom, so we changed our plans. My husband and I decided to eat at AbracadaBar on Disney's BoardWalk, while our daughters had dinner elsewhere with my parents and nieces.
AbracadaBar is a cocktail lounge that serves alcoholic beverages and bar snacks. The bar snacks, which are available after 5:00, are made next door at Trattoria al Forno.
We would never have thought to dine at AbracadaBar if we had not seen large bowls of fries being carried by our table at Trattoria al Forno the night before. When we asked our server about them, she told us that they were for AbracadaBar, but said we could also order them at Trattoria al Forno.
The Abra fries are usually served with Parmesan cheese, truffle oil, and Meyer lemon aioli, but we ordered them without the aioli. Trattoria al Forno does not put anything with gluten in their fryers, but I did have our server check with the chefs before ordering my food. The Abra fries were some of the best fries I have ever had at Disney. It is amazing how a little Parm and truffle oil can take your run of the mill Disney fries, which are always good, up a few notches. They were definitely the best fries I had on this trip.
Because I felt we should eat something more than fries, we decided to try the charcuterie plate with assorted meats and house-pulled mozzarella. It is gluten free if served with gluten free rolls. My husband had gluten-filed bread from Trattoria al Forno on the side. Because my rolls were not heated well the night before, I had our server request that my Bloomfield Farms rolls be heated very well, and they were just perfect. I am loving these new rolls, which I had not tried until our visit in July. They are much better than the Ener-G and Deanna's rolls served at Disney restaurants in past years.
My husband and I both enjoyed the charcuterie plate. All the meats I tried were delicious, and I really liked the house-pulled mozzarella.
My husband and I arrived at AbracadaBar shortly before 5:00, and ate at a table outside. It was hot, but the cold drinks we ordered, the shade, and the breeze made it bearable. Signs on the table promoted social distancing, so we did not have to worry about anyone sitting too close to us.
We did notice that the BoardWalk was much busier later in the evening, but it was pretty deserted while we ate at AbracadaBar. There is a good chance that we will dine at Trattoria al Forno when we stay at Disney's BoardWalk Villas in November, so I am sure we will be ordering those amazing Abra fries later this year. We did save 20% at AbracadaBar with our Tables in Wonderland card.
You can read more about AbracadaBar, and view their menu and hours on Disney's website.
What are your favorite gluten free options at AbracadaBar?
