Zoey Brooke's Gluten Free Bakery - Bakersfield, CA

Yesterday, we stopped at Zoey Brooke's Gluten Free Bakery in Bakersfield, California on our drive back from Las Vegas.

I had special ordered some items in advance, and we also needed a place to have lunch.

When I saw that they had fried donut holes, there was no way I was passing those up.  I have not had a fried donut since my celiac diagnosis over eight years ago.

Fresh out of the fryer, and rolled in cinnamon sugar, they were heavenly!

I ordered a turkey sandwich on Italian bread with Swiss cheese.  I liked the taste and texture of the bread, which had a nice blend of herbs in it, but wish it had been warm or at least at room temperature.

We all shared a big bag of shoestring fries, my favorite kind of French fry.

I special ordered iced sugar cookies to take home for Christmas day.

We couldn't help sampling one last night when we got home.

Not only are they beautiful, but they taste great too!

I also ordered uncooked cinnamon rolls to make for breakfast on Christmas morning,

We were told to let them come to room temperature before baking them.

The container they were in sprung a little leak, so we baked them inside a pie plate.

In 35 minutes, we had warm, delicious cinnamon rolls.  We ate them without the cream cheese icing they came with.  It was so good, but the cinnamon rolls were sweet enough without it.  The dough was incredible, but I would have preferred they had way less cinnamon sugar so I could have used some of that delicious icing.  Keep in mind, I have a hard time eating sweet things for breakfast.

We also brought home four double chocolate muffins, which went right in the freezer last night.

December 26, 2016 Update - My daughters tried a muffin this morning after defrosting it in the microwave.  They both said they really liked it, and were content to split one, because they are so big.

Overall, we were all impressed with Zoey Brookes' Gluten Free Bakery, which you can read more about on their website here.
