The Best Thing I Ever Ate at Disney - Gluten Free Waffles

This post was updated March 27, 2017

I am a huge fan of gluten free Mickey waffles, and I have recently discovered some other great Disney-themed waffles at the Disney Resorts.  This post will feature my favorite spots at Walt Disney World to eat allergy-friendly waffles.  Not all Disney resorts use the same waffle mix.  Some use Cup4Cup Pancake & Waffle Mix, some use Namaste, some use Bob's Red Mill, and others use a combination of Namaste & Bob's.

Tusker House Restaurant - Animal Kingdom

I am starting with the Mickey waffles at Tusker House, because this was the first restaurant I ever ate them at, and the only theme park restaurant at Disney World that I have had them.  I fell in love with Mickey waffles at Tusker House, and slowly but surely, I have been sampling them at the Disney Resorts, where they are readily available.  The waffles at Tusker House are nice and crispy, and you can enjoy as many as you want, because it's a buffet.

Boma - Animal Kingdom Lodge

The Mickey waffles at Boma are definitely the best I have ever had.  I would never have thought to put bananas foster on Mickey waffles, but it is the most amazing combination.  The waffles on their own are great, but the bananas foster just takes them to the next level.  They also have a pecan praline sauce to put on the waffles that is out of this world!  Boma, like Tusker House, is a buffet, so you can indulge to your heart's content.

Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory - Port Orleans French Quarter

The Mickey waffles at the quick service locations at Port Orleans French Quarter and Port Orleans Riverside are made with one of my favorite gluten free mixes, Cup4Cup Pancake & Waffle Mix.  One of the great things about stopping in for Mickey waffles at Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory is that you can also order some gluten free beignets while you are there.  If you cannot eat dairy, the restaurants at Port Orleans have Namaste on hand to make gluten free, dairy free waffles.

Landscape of Flavors - Art of Animation

Landscape of Flavors uses a blend of Bob's Red Mill and Namaste Pancake & Waffle Mix to make their Disney-themed waffles. My Flounder and Ariel waffles were slightly crispy on the outside, and perfectly cooked on the inside.  Some of my blog readers have told me that Cars, Nemo, and Lion King waffles are also available at Landscape of Flavors.  I love their turkey bacon, and they have a beautiful selection of fresh fruit, if you would like to enjoy some on your waffles.

Everything POP - Pop Century Resort

You can order gluten free Mickey waffles at Everything Pop, but I wanted the super-size POP waffle, which filled up an entire dinner plate.  It was perfectly crispy and delicious, and this was the waffle that turned my daughters into Disney waffle lovers.  Disney's Pop Century Resort is a history-lovers dream.  I enjoyed just walking around the lobby checking out all the amazing shadow boxes filled with memorabilia from some of my favorite decades.

Boatwright's Dining Hall - Port Orleans Riverside

Once I discovered that chicken & waffles existed, I wanted to try them, but by then, I had been diagnosed with celiac disease.  Chef Tony at Boatwright's made my dream of eating gluten free fried chicken & waffles a reality.  The combination of fried chicken with waffles and syrup was divine!  The breading was super crispy and flavorful, and the chicken was perfectly tender and moist.  I can't imagine having a more perfect version of chicken & waffles.

Trattoria al Forno - Disney's BoardWalk

The Mickey waffles with espresso-mascarpone cream at Trattoria al Forno remind me of tiramisu, one of my favorite desserts, and they come with a side of some of the best bacon on Disney property.

The Mara - Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge

The Mara's waffles are just as good as the Mickey waffles next door at Boma.  There are no fancy toppings, but I love to eat my waffles at The Mara with a little bit of syrup and sausage on top of them.

Grand Floridian Cafe - Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

At the Grand Floridan Cafe, I asked if they could serve my gluten free Mickey waffles with the seasonal butter and syrup that comes with the pancakes.  The maple syrup contained Grand Marnier, orange marmalade, orange blossom honey, pecans, and cranberries.  There were also cranberries and pecans in the butter.  Topped with the seasonal butter and a little bit of syrup, my waffles were incredibly delicious.  Sadly, the pancakes are not served this way all the time, so if you go at a different time of the year, the seasonal toppings will be different, and they might not be gluten free.

If you click on the name of each restaurant under the pictures, you will be taken to my detailed reviews of the restaurants I have listed.

Favorite spots for Disney-themed waffles recommended by my blog readers include the restaurants mentioned above, Chef Mickey's and the Contempo Cafe at the Contemporary Resort, Roaring Fork at Disney's Wilderness Lodge, Riverside Mill Food Court at Port Orleans Riverside, 'Ohana at the Polynesian, Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club, 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian Resort, and Olivia's Cafe at Old Key West.

My friend Sarah has a great list of allergy friendly Mickey waffles locations on her blog Gluten-Free & Dairy-Free at WDW.  You can view her list here.  Gluten free waffles are always made on separate waffle irons to avoid cross contamination.

What is your favorite spot at WDW for gluten free Disney-themed waffles?

  1. I just returned from Disney and had the Gluten Free Waffles at the Cape May Cafe (Beach Club Resort) and they were amazing! The Chef came out and went over all the buffet items I could and could not eat. This was also a character breakfast. The food was very good and I highly recommend this place!

  2. okay everyone loves these waffles but when i got them at the Trattoria at Board walk they were so dense and flavorless, I had to use both syrup and the amazing cream to choke them down. Did i just get a bad plate or was i expecting too much?

    1. Their waffles are usually so good, and I am very fussy about my waffles, but you are the second person recently who mentioned a bad experience at Trattoria al Forno. You were not expecting too much. I had Mickey waffles a few months back at the Yacht Club and they were horrible, which is rare at any Disney restaurant.

    1. Thanks Molly! I checked a couple of my breakfast posts with pictures of allergy-friendly menus, and The Mara and Trattoria al Forno have them, so I would assume you can get them anywhere that serves GF waffles.
