Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory Lunch - Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter

Every time we visit Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory at Disney's Port Orleans Resort French Quarter, we order the gluten free beignets, but today, believe it or not, we didn't even eat one.  You can read my review of Sassagoula's amazing beignets here.

We arrived at 11:00, just as lunch was starting.  Chef Raphael went over the gluten free lunch options with me.  I could have the Pork Po' Boy, the Fish Sandwich, or the Tuna Salad Sandwich on a gluten free bun. Gluten free plain or pepperoni pizza, Amy's Macaroni & Cheese, Chicken Tenders, the Cheesesteak Sandwich, and gluten free pasta were mentioned as other options.

I decided to order the Cheesesteak Sandwich with French Fries, though I was very tempted by my favorite gluten free chicken tenders, but I can get those almost anywhere at Disney.  The Ener-G buns were decent, but I knew there was no way I could eat all of that bread, so I concentrated on the beef, onions, peppers, and cheese, which were excellent.  Chef Raphael told me that they will soon be using Udi's bread instead of Ener-G.

When Chef Raphael came to check on me and ask how my meal was, I asked why the fries tasted a little different than what I have eaten at other Disney restaurants.  He said he seasoned them with salt and pepper, sprayed them so they wouldn't stick, and baked them.  They were really delicious!

My daughters, who are on Spring Break, enjoyed their wedding soup and meatball sub, which are not options for gluten free diners.

So you might be wondering why I skipped the gluten free beignets.  Well, BabyCakes in Downtown Disney is closing tomorrow, with no word of when or if they will reopen in the new Disney Springs, so I had to stop in for some gluten free baked goods.

You can read more about BabyCakes here.

June 10, 2015 Update

Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory has adopted a new allergy-friendly menu.  You can view the gluten free options on this menu in my blog post about Disney's Port Orleans Resort Allergy-Friendly Menus.
