La Hacienda de San Angel - Epcot

Last week, my daughters and I had dinner at La Hacienda de San Angel, a table service restaurant at the Mexico Pavilion in Epcot.

We love to dine at La Hacienda de San Angel, because we enjoy Mexican cuisine, and the restaurant has incredible views of the World Showcase Lagoon.

La Hacienda de San Angel is not a Disney owned and operated restaurant, so they do not have an allergy-friendly menu, but gluten free options are noted on their regular menu. If there is a dish on the menu that interests you, but is not labeled gluten free, be sure to speak to a chef, because I have been told on past visits that many dishes can be modified to be gluten free.

Our server asked if I wanted to speak to a chef, but I decided that it was not necessary, because I knew what entree I was interested in, and it was marked gluten free on the menu. I did make a point to tell our server that I have celiac disease, and that it was important that my order be placed as an allergy order.

Sometimes on past visits, the chips have not been safe, but now La Hacienda de San Angel has a dedicated fryer for their corn chips.

The salsa was super fresh tasting, and it was not too spicy, so my whole family could enjoy it.

My favorite entree at La Hacienda de San Angel has always been the Pollo al Pastor, which features adobo marinated chicken breast with chile de arbol glaze, pineapple relish, and grilled vegetables. My chicken was super tender, and I enjoyed the flavor from the marinade, but I was disappointed that I was given such a small amount of pineapple relish. The grilled vegetables, which included squash, zucchini and peppers, were incredible. Everything on my plate was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I just wish I had been able to find our server in time to ask for more pineapple relish.

I ate my chicken and vegetables with the housemade corn tortillas, and sides of rice and beans that all entrees are served with.

My daughters decided to order the Carne Asade, which is New York strip served with cascabel sauce, pumpkin habanero dust, queso fresco, and corn mashed potatoes. My daughter Emma does not like steak as much as the rest of my family, so I was surprised that she agreed to split this dish with Katie. My daughters loved the corn mashed potatoes, and enjoyed the vegetables and sides, but they did not like the steak enough to order it again. I wish I had asked for their meal to be marked as an allergy order, because I would have loved to have tried it. The steak looked really good to me!

I was disappointed that the only gluten free dessert at La Hacienda de San Angel was mango sorbet, so we decided to have dessert elsewhere. Overall, I enjoyed my meal, and I am glad we decided to dine at La Hacienda de San Angel, which we had not done since we moved to California three years ago. When we lived in Orlando, it was one of our favorite restaurants at Epcot.

You can read more about La Hacienda de San Angel, view their menu and hours, and make advance dining reservations on Disney's website here. They do not give a discount for having an annual pass or Tables in Wonderland, but I did save 10% with my Disney Vacation Club membership card.

What are your favorite gluten free dishes at La Hacienda de San Angel?

  1. Great timing for the review... it's the first reservation for our stay! Do the salsa and chips come as complimentary? Looks yummy... was it dairy-free as well, do you know? Thanks :)
