Kona Cafe Breakfast - Disney's Polynesian Village Resort

Over Thanksgiving Break, we had breakfast at Kona Cafe, a table service restaurant at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort.

Gluten free options on Kona Cafe's allergy-friendly menu include two eggs-any style, the Loco Moco, a fruit plate, allergy-friendly waffles, ham and cheese omelet, bacon, spiced ham, pork sausage, and a fresh fruit cup.

We decided to dine at Kona Cafe, because my gluten-eating family loves their Tonga Toast, and I wanted to try their waffles with a side of strawberry compote, a tip I learned from Fairytale Foodie.

Not all restaurants at Disney World and Disneyland use the same waffle mix, and there are some I do not enjoy, like Bob's Red Mill and Golden Malted gluten free waffle & pancake mix.

I am not sure what mix Kona Cafe is using, but their waffles are amazing. I would presume, from the taste and texture, that they are using Namaste Waffle & Pancake Mix, which I occasionally use at home.

A good topping makes a good Mickey waffle even better, and Kona's strawberry compote was the perfect accompaniment for my waffles. It is served with Tonga Toast, but you can request a side of it for your waffles. Katie from Fairy Tale Food was right when she described it as tasting like a strawberry milkshake or smoothie. My sausage were a little greasy, and I found myself wishing that I had ordered bacon instead. I had a hard time finishing all four of my Mickey waffles, but they were so delicious, I kept on eating, and they filled me up until dinner.

In July, we are considering staying at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort for a few days at the end of our trip, so we will definitely be returning to Kona Cafe for breakfast and dinner.
