California Burger Co. - Lake Tahoe

Yesterday, we had dinner at California Burger Co. at Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe.  This is our second visit to Lake Tahoe since moving to California.

On their regular menu, which you can view here, California Burger Co. has an asterisk next to every menu item that can be made gluten free.

Last night, my entire family ordered the Caprese burger with tomatoes, fresh basil, melted mozzarella, and sweet balsamic reduction.  I asked for a side of pesto instead of the mayo the burger is usually served with, and I decided to forgo a gluten free bun, because I usually don't like them, and I wanted to save some room for dessert.  We all agreed that our burgers were amazing, and when we make burgers at home from now on, we will be serving them with Caprese salad.  I also enjoyed my sweet potato tots, which were made in a dedicated fryer.  They were great dipped in the pesto.

For dessert, I ordered Plantains Foster a la mode.  The kitchen manager made us a special caramel sauce, because the bourbon caramel sauce served with this dessert is not gluten free.  We all loved our Plantains Foster a la mode, but agreed that it could have used a little more ice cream.

When we dined at California Burger Co. in October, I ordered The Californian, their signature burger with fresh avocado, tomato, spinach, California jack cheese, and pesto.  As usual, I skipped the mayo.  For sides, I choose sweet potato tots and french fries.  I remember liking this burger, but The Caprese is my favorite.

In October, I had the Plantains Foster a la mode for dessert, minus the caramel sauce.  I definitely prefer it with the caramel sauce, but it was great both times.

As I am writing this review, my family is considering going back to California Burger Co. tonight, because we all loved the meals we had yesterday.

You can read more about California Burger Co. on their website here.

What are your favorite restaurants for gluten free dining in Lake Tahoe?

Yesterday, my answer would have been Azul Latin Kitchen, but now, I am not sure which one would top my list.

    1. You’re welcome! We love Azul Latin Kitchen (review on my blog) at Heavenly too. In January, we had great meals at Truckee Tavern, Fireside Pizza Company, and Coffeebar Bakery in Truckee on our trip to Squaw Valley.
