Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop - Disney Springs

After we moved to Orlando in 2008, Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop in Disney Springs became one of our favorite dessert spots at Disney World.  My husband and I loved to order a scoop of vanilla ice cream with their amazing milk chocolate hot fudge.

On our trip to Disneyland three years ago, I did not pass up the chance to stop at Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop at Disney California Adventure Park.

Imagine my disappointment when I stopped at Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop in February of 2015 to enjoy dessert with my family, only to be told that employees will no longer change their gloves or scoop ice cream from a new container in the back to avoid cross contamination like they used to.  I contacted Disney Special Diets, who told me that things might change if they got enough feedback, so several of my amazing blog readers emailed special.diets@disneyworld.com to express their disappointment, but sadly, nothing has changed.

My husband and I met some of his college friends and their children at Ghardelli yesterday, and I was told that their un-Disney policies are still in place, so I will continue to avoid eating there.  I did speak to a manager last year about their unwillingness to go the extra mile for people with special diets, and he was not very friendly and did not seem to care.  I still hold out hope that Ghardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop will change their policies in the future, but until then, my family and I will take our business elsewhere.

If you are looking for a safe quick service dessert option at Disney Springs, I suggest Erin McKenna's Bakery NYC or Sprinkles Cupcakes.
