Gluten Free Treats at the Main Street Confectionary -- Magic Kingdom

You can't miss the Main Street Confectionary when you enter the Magic Kingdom.  This old-fashioned candy shop sells a variety of sweet treats, some of which you can watch cast members make on site.

Disney theming is evident both inside and outside of the shop.  I couldn't resist taking a picture of this window display.

As a celiac, I am not able to enjoy any of the treats made on site, like these Frozen inspired caramel apples.  They are beautiful, but even if they were free of gluten containing ingredients, there are cross contamination issues in the shop.

Yesterday, I started to look at pre-packaged snacks to see what is available for people who cannot eat gluten.

Disney clearly labels allergens contained in their products, and also has allergy warnings on their packages.  Goofy gummies clearly state that they are packaged in a facility that processes peanuts, tree nuts, egg, soy, milk and wheat, so these are not a good choice.

The Main Street Confectionary sells a great selection of plain M&Ms.

In any color, they meet the strict standards for gluten free certification, which requires that products contain less than 10 ppm of gluten, so they are a great option.   Since we moved to Orlando, my daughters have loved to visit the Main Street Confectionary to pick out a small bag of multi-colored M&Ms.

Another good choice, if you are looking for a sweet treat, are the Jelly Belly jelly beans.

Jelly Belly jelly beans are gluten free, dairy free, peanut free, gelatin free, and fat free.  They also happen to be the best jelly beans on the planet!  I have occasionally purchased them from this shop.

While I was wandering around, I checked out the ingredients of the cotton candy.  They all contain cane sugar, artificial flavors and colors, but no gluten or dairy, and no allergy warnings on the bag.

Next up, I stopped at the popcorn display, where I found a lot of gluten free options.  The caramel corn contains milk and soy, and has an allergy warning that it is manufactured in a facility that processes peanuts and tree nuts.

The chocolate caramel popcorn also contains milk and soy, and has an allergy warning that it is manufactured in a facility that processes peanuts and tree nuts, but no gluten.

Same for the cheddar cheese popcorn.

You will also want to avoid the chocolate cheddar popcorn if you have an allergy to milk, soy, or nuts.

The final gluten free popcorn option is the confetti popcorn, which has all the same allergens and allergy warnings as the others.

Some other gluten free treats I found before my family rushed me out of the store are these Disney themed chocolate bars.  The Chocolate Tames the Beast is raspberry rose flavored milk chocolate.  It contains milk, soy, and coconut, and is manufactured on shared equipment with peanuts and/or tree nuts.

The Eye Know What Women Want is a milk chocolate bar with peanut butter.  It contains milk, peanuts, and soy, and is manufactured on shared equipment with tree nuts.

The I'm Just Mad About Chocolate is milk chocolate and mint.  It is not safe for people with milk. soy, coconut, or peanut/tree nut allergies.

The I See Chocolate In Your Future is a dark chocolate hot fudge truffle bar.  It contains milk, soy, and coconut, and is manufactured on shared equipment with peanuts and/or tree nuts.

I will try to add to this list on my next visit to the Magic Kingdom.  I definitely saw some other gluten free options, like Hershey's Milk Chocolate bars.

Have you tried any of these treats at the Main Street Confectionary?

  1. Thank you for sharing these options! This is such a fun candy store on iconic Main Street.

When we were there in May 2016, the cotton candy there had an allergy label that it was processed in a facility with wheat.

If you happen to go back, I would love to know if it is now safe now. My kids would be overjoyed to have cotton candy on Main Street! :)
