Raglan Road Dinner - Downtown Disney

We celebrated my birthday yesterday by having dinner at Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant in Downtown Disney.  I have recently dined at Raglan Road twice for lunch, but we hadn't been there for dinner in several years.  You can read my lunch review here.

The dinner menu and lunch menu have a lot of dishes in common, and the large majority of them can be made gluten free.  As is common practice, our server asked if we had any food allergies when he came to the table.  Raglan Road states on their website that, "we do our best to accommodate special dietary needs, and most menu items can be modified to meet your nutritional requirements.  Just check with your server or Manager."  Unlike other restaurants at Disney, a chef will not visit your table, but the servers are all very knowledgeable about what dishes can be made gluten free.

I had hoped to try the nom nom wings, but they cannot be modified to be gluten free.  For a starter, we ordered our favorite garlic parmesan & truffle oil skinny chips, which are made in a dedicated fryer.

We decided to eat family style last night, sharing all of the dishes we ordered.  I was excited to try the Keen Eye for the Shepherds Pie after having an amazing Shepherds Pie at Rose & Crown Pub in Epcot.  The presentation was beautiful, and we all enjoyed this dish, but I have to give a slight edge to the Shepherds Pie I had at Rose & Crown.  At Raglan Road, they use lamb and beef, which I enjoyed, but I wasn't crazy about the gravy/sauce in the dish.

I didn't see fried shrimp on the dinner menu, but I knew they were available at Raglan Road's quick service restaurant, Cooke's of Dublin.  When I asked our server about them, he said they were available on the kids menu.

We are not huge fans of the thick-cut chips, so we ordered our fried shrimp with more garlic parmesan skinny chips.

I have not had fried shrimp since my celiac diagnosis, over 6 years ago.  These little shrimp were definitely the highlight of my birthday dinner.  They were so crunchy and delicious!

My husband was in the mood for fish & chips, so we ordered the gluten free version, which we both thought was amazing.  The gluten free batter at Raglan Road is often lacking in salt, which is easily rectified at the table.

For dessert, there are three gluten free options, fresh fruit, strawberry & apple crumble, and Dundon's Delight.  The strawberry & apple crumble with vanilla ice cream and fresh cream is one of the reasons I chose Raglan Road for my birthday dinner.  It is served piping hot, right out of the oven.  You would never know the crumble on top is gluten free, and I love the combination of strawberries and apple, and cold ice cream on the warm crumble.

I always enjoy the Dundon's Delight, which is a raspberry pavlova with vanilla pod ice cream and raspberry sauce.  A pavlova is a meringue dessert with a crisp outside crust and a soft, light inside.

After watching some Irish dancing, we headed to Hollywood Studios to check out the Frozen Summer Fun.

December 1, 2015 Update - Raglan Road now has a gluten free menu on their website, which you can view here.
