Scat Cat's Cafe at Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter

Over Christmas break, I had dinner at Scat Cat's Cafe at Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter with my friends Sarah from Gluten-Free & Dairy-Free at WDW and Amanda from Eating Out Without.

Scat Cat's Cafe was a holiday table service restaurant open from December 21st to December 30th.

They served all-you-care-to-eat Cajun-style cuisine for just $25.99 for adults, and $14.99 for children 9 and under.  I was even able to use my Tables in Wonderland card to receive a 20% discount.

Scat Cat's Cafe was set up in the space that used to be Bonfamille's Cafe, a table service restaurant that closed shortly after 9/11.

Hopefully the fact that the space was opened again to guests over the holidays is a sign of good things to come.  Chef Tony could not share any specifics, but he did say that several things were being looked at.

Most of the dishes on Scat Cat's Cafe family-style diner menu were naturally gluten free, but Chef Tony and Chef Paul had alternatives for us for the dishes that were not.

We could not have the house-made corn bread, but the chefs at Port Orleans always do an amazing job heating up my favorite gluten free rolls at Disney.  Deanna's allergen free dinner rolls (formerly known as GNI) are free of gluten, dairy, egg, soy, corn, and nuts.  They were so good with the honey butter Chef Paul brought me, I ended up eating two of them.

I am not much of a salad lover, but I need to ask Chef Tony for his sweet roasted garlic vinaigrette recipe.  I could eat salad every day with that dressing.

We were able to eat the slow-cooked pot roast, but the chefs had to leave off the gravy.  It was good, but a little bit dry.  When I went back and looked at my pictures, I saw all the juice on the bottom of the bowl, and regretted not eating my pot roast with it.

The Cajun-roasted chicken was super flavorful, and I enjoyed the vegetable jambalaya.

I only had a bite or two of the grilled andouille sausage, because I will always choose other meats over sausage, unless it is Italian sausage in an Italian dish.

Sarah and Amanda loved the grilled asparagus, which they were brought because they could not eat the mashed potatoes or the mac & cheese.  I was offered Amy's gluten free mac & cheese, but with all the other food I had to eat, I did not even consider it.

Collard greens might be my least favorite vegetable, so I had one bite, and that was plenty.  I did enjoy the maque choux though, which contained corn, red pepper, onion, celery, and garlic.

The mashed potatoes at Scat Cat's Cafe were amazing, and might have been my favorite part of dinner.

I also loved my dessert, which got a little melty while we were talking to Chef Tony.  I could not have the bread pudding, but I could have its accompaniments, the vanilla bean ice cream and banana-caramel sauce.

Sarah and Amanda were given some gluten free beignets for dessert, and Chef Paul was kind enough to make me one too.  Gluten free beignets are available every day, all day, without advance notice next door at Sassagoula Floatworks & Food Factory.

Overall, I enjoyed the food, and catching up with my gluten free blogger friends and two of my favorite Disney chefs.

I will let you know if I hear anything about Disney's plans for the space occupied by Scat Cat's Cafe.  I would love to see a new restaurant there in the near future.  In the meantime, we can enjoy all the amazing gluten free options at the three restaurants at Disney's Port Orleans Resort.  You can view the gluten/wheat friendly options on their allergy-friendly menus here.
