Over Christmas Break, we spent six nights at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. Last year, we stayed off property, but this year, I decided to splurge on everything. We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel, which we all loved, bought 5-Day Park Hopper Tickets, purchased Disney MaxPass every day, which allows you to get fastpasses and free photo downloads in your Disneyland app, and we booked dining packages for World of Color and Fantasmic.
Fantasmic dining packages are available for two table service restaurants, Blue Bayou Restaurant and River Belle Terrace, where you get a 3-course meal, but I was concerned that my daughters would not be able to eat that much food, so I chose the Fantasmic! On The Go Package at Hungry Bear Restaurant, a quick service restaurant at Disneyland Park.
When you book the early Fantasmic dining package at Hungry Bear, you have the flexibility to eat between 3pm and 7pm, and there is a separate line for ordering your food. The price is very reasonable compared to the table service restaurants. For $29.99 per adult, and $19.99 per child, you receive a drink, entree, and a voucher for the reserved seating area to see the first Fantasmic show.
We had the flexibility to order off the special Fantasmic menu, or the regular menu. A chef came out to speak to me about gluten free options, and told me that all of the adult entrees on the Fantasmic menu were gluten free.
We waited about 10 minutes to get our food, which was given to us in a bag, so we could take it with us. We opted to dine at Hungry Bear Restaurant, because there was plenty of open seating, and we were not in a hurry to go anywhere.
My husband and I ordered the cedar salt-roasted sustainable salmon, which we both enjoyed. The fish was seasoned and cooked well, and I thought it was well complimented by the sides it came with. All entrees are served with cranberry-apricot grains & wild rice medley, and kale & garbanzo bean salad.
My daughter Emma was happy with her blackberry barbecue pork riblets, and she loved the rice and salad. Katie liked her plain burger and french fries, which she ordered from the regular menu. My friend Sarah from Gluten-Free & Dairy Free at WDW recently had a burger and fries at Hungry Bear, which you can read about here. For a beverage, we all chose bottled water, but they had several flavors of Blue Sky Natural Soda to choose from, and they were labeled gluten free.
Overall, we all enjoyed our meals at Hungry Bear Restaurant, but none of us were happy that you have to sit on the ground to see Fantasmic. I was not aware of this when I booked our dining package. The view from the Hungry Bear section was great, but take a blanket or a towel to sit on if you are like us, and do not like to sit on the ground, and be prepared to get a little wet if you are sitting close to the water.
We arrived an hour early for the show, and shared a The Nightmare Before Christmas blanket I bought in front of the Haunted Mansion. It was just big enough for the four of us to sit on, but it did not leave us much room to stretch out.
You can read more about Hungry Bear Restaurant and their Fantasmic! On The Go Package on Disneyland's website.
