Backlot Express - Hollywood Studios

Yesterday, I stopped at the Backlot Express, a quick service restaurant in Disney's Hollywood Studios, to check out their allergy-friendly menu.

You can read a review of my last dining experience at the Backlot Express here.

Gluten/wheat allergy-friendly options:
  • Entrees - 1/3 lb Angus bacon cheeseburger on a rice bun (served with carrot sticks or french fries), hot dog on a rice bun (served with carrot sticks or french fries), chicken tenders (served with carrot sticks or french fries), Southwest salad with chicken and cilantro vinaigrette, cantaloupe and cucumber salad with Zinfandel vinaigrette
  • Dessert - allergy-friendly chocolate chip cookie, allergy-friendly brownie
  • Kids' Meals (served with carrot sticks, applesauce, and choice of small lowfat milk or small Dasani water; french fries available upon request) - chicken tenders, grilled cheese served on a rice bun

The allergy-friendly menu at the Backlot Express also lists options for people with milk, egg, soy, fish/shellfish, and peanut/tree nut allergies.

The menu at the Backlot Express has been updated with Star Wars themed food options.  Some of these options were available at the Rebel Hangar, a temporary table service restaurant located inside the Backlot Express, during Star Wars Weekends earlier this year.

At the Rebel Hanger, I had the Pilot's Pommes Frites, which are now called Corellian Spice Fries on the Backlot Express menu.  I really enjoyed these parmesan, garlic, and parsley seasoned fries at the Rebel Hanger, and look forward to trying them again at the Backlot Express.  My gluten-eating daughters will be happy to see the addition of the Dark Side Chicken and Waffles to the menu.  I would love to try the chicken tenders with Vader waffles, if they are able to make a gluten free version.  The cantaloupe and cucumber salad is no longer on the menu, and the Southwest Salad is now called the Galactic Chicken Salad.  They have also added a Royal Guard Burger, which is a 1/3 lb Angus beef burger with barbecued brisket, Monterey Jack, lettuce, tomato, and a pickle on a pumpernickel bun.  Hopefully it can be made gluten free by changing the bun.  I will be interested to see if the Blue Milk panna cotta is gluten free as well.  I plan on stopping at the Backlot Express in the next week or two to see their new allergy-friendly menu.

You can read more about the Backlot Express, and view their hours and menu on Disney's website here.

What are your favorite gluten free options at the Backlot Express?

  1. I wonder if anyone has heard if the dark side chicken and waffles can be made gluten-free? My fingers are crossed!

    1. I had lunch there today. The waffles were not mentioned as an option.
