The Daily Poutine - Disney Springs

Last Saturday, we headed to Disney Springs to have lunch at D-Luxe Burger, but it was closed for a private party when we arrived.  We decided to explore the recently opened Town Center neighborhood of Disney Springs while we waited for D-Luxe Burger to open to the public.

When I saw The Daily Poutine, a quick service restaurant in Town Center, we reconsidered our lunch plans, because my friend Sarah from Gluten-Free & Dairy-Free at WDW had a good experience dining there opening week.  Poutine is a Canadian dish featuring french fries topped with cheese curds and gravy.  The Daily Poutine also offers Latin, Italian, and French-inspired versions of poutine.

The cast member taking orders pulled out an allergy-friendly menu for me, but told me that because of their small prep space, they could not guarantee that there would not be cross contamination.  I then spoke to a chef who also said that there was a high risk of cross contamination.  I could see the prep space, and it was small, but it looked very clean, and all the ingredients seemed to be well contained in their own spaces.   As far as I know, only the gravies served on the classic and French poutines contain gluten, and they appeared to be in covered containers.  I kept hoping that they would be more specific about how the cross contamination could occur, but they were not, so we walked away disappointed.

This was my first experience at Disney World being told that a menu item labeled gluten/wheat friendly on an allergy-friendly menu at a Disney owned and operated restaurant was probably not safe for me.  Allergy-friendly menus at Disney always have a disclaimer that because of shared kitchen space, there is a risk of cross contamination, but that chefs will use reasonable efforts to avoid it.

You can read Sarah's review of the Latin Poutine on her blog Gluten-Free & Dairy Free at WDW.

Thankfully, Le Cellier has two gluten/wheat friendly poutine options on their allergy-friendly menu, so head to Epcot if you would like to safely enjoy this dish at Disney World.

June 15, 2016 Update

My daughters, who do not need to eat gluten free, recently tried the Latine poutine at The Daily Poutine, but they ordered it with French fries instead of fried yucca, and no sour cream.  They both loved it, and it smelled amazing.
