This Harry Potter themed pub serves traditional British dishes like fish & chips, bangers & mash, and cottage pie.
In the binder with allergy information, there was a list of menu items that were gluten free or could be modified to be gluten free. For breakfast, gluten free options include the American Breakfast, gluten free pancakes, roasted potatoes, and a fruit plate. For lunch and dinner, safe options include salad, all dressings, vegetables, chicken sandwich with a gluten free bun and side salad, side salad with chicken breast, veggie platter without bread, and cranachan for dessert.
The Leaky Cauldron also has a variety of gluten free Harry Potter themed beverages, like Butterbeer, Tongue Tying Lemon Squash, Otter's Fizzy Orange Juice, Fishy Green Ale, Peachtree Fizzing Tea, and Gillywater (bottled water).
Having already had a frozen Butterbeer earlier in the day at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure, I decided to try something different at the Leaky Cauldron.
My friend Sarah from Gluten-Free & Dairy-Free at WDW recently tried and liked the Tongue Tying Lemon Squash, so I decided to order one. If you like fresh-squeezed lemonade, you will enjoy this drink, which was slightly sweet, and a little bit tart, with two lemon halves floating amongst the ice.
After ordering our meals and receiving our drinks, we were given a stand with a number on it to put on our table, so a server could find us when our food was ready.
While we were waiting for our food, which did not take very long, I checked out the artwork, which fit in perfectly with the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theming.
I ordered the chicken sandwich on a gluten free bun with a side salad. My gluten-eating daughters ordered the same meal, but theirs came with fried potatoes, that were sadly off limits for me.
My chicken was seasoned nicely, and it was topped with cheese, roasted tomatoes, and bacon. Not being a fan of mayo, I asked them to leave off the apple butter mayo that was mentioned on the regular menu.
The gluten free bun was not toasted like my daughters' bread, but it tasted fresh, and had a nice consistency.
My only complaint about my meal was that I did not want a side salad, because I don't enjoy lettuce without a bunch of vegetables, and I don't like packaged dressings. I should have asked if I could have vegetables instead, because they were listed in the binder as a gluten free option. My daughters enjoyed their sandwich and potatoes, and my gluten-eating husband loved his Beef, Lamb & Guinness Stew in a bread bowl.
Overall, I enjoyed my sandwich and my drink at the Leaky Cauldron, but because of the limited options, I think we will try Three Broomsticks the next time we go to Universal Orlando. Three Broomsticks has a couple of menu items that I am interested in trying, like the potato leek soup, the chicken platter, and the turkey leg.
