Mythos Restaurant - Universal's Islands of Adventure

Since we moved to Orlando 6 1/2 years ago, we have purchased annual passes to Universal Orlando three times.  I was excited to buy them again before Christmas, so I could begin to review some restaurants at Universal on my blog.

Mythos Restaurant has always been our favorite theme park restaurant at Universal.  It is located in the Lost Continent in Universal's Islands of Adventure.

I do prefer full service restaurants over quick service in the theme parks, because they usually have better food, and it gives us a chance to rest and relax.  For counter service dining at Islands of Adventure, try Three Broomsticks or Thunder Falls Terrace.

Because we were not able to get a reservation when we called this morning, we arrived at Mythos at 11:00 when it opened, and were seated right away.

Dishes that can be prepared gluten free are marked on the menu (updated menu pictures from 10/15)

Appetizers  -  Mezze platter, Tuscan tomato soup

Salads - Greek salad, mixed baby greens, heart of romaine Caesar

Entrees - Beef medallions, grilled swordfish, seared salmon, seasonal risotto, Pad Thai, Mythos signature hamburger, traditional hamburger, blackened fish tacos, grilled chicken BLT

After we ordered, our server appeared with a whole basket of gluten free buns.

I was prepared to dislike them, because I rarely like gluten free bread when I dine out, but they were pretty good.  The buns were heated well, and had a great texture, and I enjoyed them with my "Universal" butter.

The Pad Thai has always been my favorite dish at Mythos, so we ordered two of the gluten free version so we could all share.  Mythos Pad Thai is rice noodles, mixed vegetables, and chicken and shrimp, tossed in a sweet and sour peanut sauce.  Everyone enjoyed it, but I was a little disappointed that it did not contain more chicken and shrimp.

My family also shared an order of the gluten free blackened fish tacos, which are corn tortillas with the catch of the day, vegetable slaw and remoulade sauce, served with potato salad and a watermelon tomato medley.

We asked for the remoulade on the side, which I don't eat, but I loved my fish taco with the watermelon tomato medley.  I thought my husband was crazy for choosing this dish, but we liked the tacos so much, we would definitely order them again.  I didn't try the potato salad, because it looked like it contained a lot of mayonnaise, but my husband and daughters said it was really good.

Gluten free dessert options at Mythos include creme brulee, and a modified version of the warm chocolate banana gooey cake.

Because we all had plans to enjoy a Butterbeer after lunch, we decided to share an order of the warm chocolate banana gooey cake, which has always been my favorite dessert at Mythos.  Warm chocolate cake, vanilla ice cream,  bananas, and an incredible caramel sauce....sigh.  Need I say more?  Next time, I am getting my own!

March 2, 2016 Update

Before our annual passes expired last year, we had lunch at Mythos in late October.  This update is four months late, but better late than never.

My meal started with an Udi's gluten free bun served with butter.  I don't know what the chefs at Universal do to them, because I never enjoy Udi's hamburger buns at home, but they are so delicious at Mythos.

My husband and I shared two entrees - the seasonal risotto, and the beef medallions with shredded potato gratin, braised red cabbage, fresh watercress, and chimichurri.

I preferred the seasonal risotto, which just happened to have the same beef medallions on it as our other entree.  I liked both of the dishes we chose, but I definitely prefer the Pad Thai, which I will order on future visits.

For dessert, I could not pass up the warm chocolate banana gooey cake with vanilla ice cream,  bananas, and caramel sauce.  It continues to be one of my favorite gluten free desserts in Orlando.

Mythos is open every day for lunch.  You can make reservations by calling 407-224-3663.  Preferred and premier annual pass holders can receive a 10% discount at Mythos.

What are your favorite gluten free dishes at Mythos?
