Spice Road Table - Epcot

Spice Road Table had its soft opening today at Epcot.  It is located in the Morocco Pavilion on the World Showcase Lagoon.

Spice Road Table serves Mediterranean small plates.  I love small plates, because you get to try a variety of different foods.

Both outside and indoor seating are available.  There were a good number of tables on the terrace, and they have a great view of the lagoon.

The hostess seated us inside, which I didn't mind because it was an unseasonably warm 84 degrees today, and I was in the mood for some air conditioning after walking around Epcot.  I was really impressed with the decor and the views of the lagoon.  When I asked about gluten free options, our server said he would get the chef.  She went through the small plates menu with me, and I was really impressed with how many gluten free options were available.

We ordered the hummus and imported olives.  I thought the hummus was really good, but did not sample the olives, which are not something I usually eat.  My family ate the flat bread, which was served on a separate plate.  Hopefully, gluten free bread will be available in the future.

The Mediterranean Omelet with potato, red peppers, and caramelized onions was good, but not something I would order again because of the spices used in the dish.  Interestingly enough, it was my daughter Emma that liked this dish more than anyone in our family.  My daughter Kate loved her lamb slider, which I could have ordered without the brioche bun.

The Spicy Garlic Shrimp, which were sauteed with dried chilies and fried garlic, were very tasty.

We also enjoyed the Moroccan Merguez Sausage, a lamb sausage served with tomato, red onion, and cilantro salad.

My husband and I both agreed that the Rice Stuffed Grape Leaves with fried capers, raisins, and fresh nutmeg were our favorite dish.  I'm usually not a huge fan of grape leaves or raisins, but this dish was just perfect.  Most grape leaves I've had in the past were too lemony, but that was not the case with the grape leaves at Spice Road Table.  I loved the pairing of the grape leaves with the sweet raisins.  We will definitely be getting two orders on our next visit.  The only gluten free dish we did not order was the Mussels Tagine.

Sadly, there are no gluten free dessert options at Spice Road Table.  Advance dining reservations are not available at Epcot's newest restaurant, and they do not accept Tables in Wonderland.

February 16, 2014 Update

We ate at Spice Road Table today for lunch.  This time, we sat outside and had this beautiful view of the lagoon.  I noticed a new menu item, the Mixed Grill Skewers, which the chef confirmed was gluten free.

The chicken was very good, but the beef was the star of this dish.  We will definitely be ordering it again on our next visit.

February 22, 2014 Update - Imagine my surprise when I walked by Spice Road Table today and saw that they are now identifying naturally gluten free dishes on their menu.  The three dishes with an asterisk for being gluten free are the Mediterranean Omelet, the Moroccan Lamb Sausage, and the Rice Stuffed Grape Leaves.  Other menu items that I have previously mentioned in this post can be modified to be gluten free. My friend Sarah from Gluten Free & Dairy Free at WDW recently visited Spice Road Table and was offered gluten free bread with her order of Hummus & Imported Olives.  I am looking forward to trying it on my next visit.

March 12, 2015 Update

Spice Road Table is now offering 5 specialty entrees in addition to small plates.  You can view their menu on Disney's website here.  They are also now accepting advance dining reservations up to 180 days in advance.  I hope to go back soon and get an update on their gluten free offerings.

What are your favorite gluten free dishes at Spice Road Table?

  1. Looks great! Do you know if anything was also free of milk or soy? It's nice to know they were aware of it.

Did they have any other beers/drinks available? I don't drink the barley-derived beers, but I do like a good beer! (Though usually I bring my own to Disney!)

    1. Hi Laurie! Sorry, I did not ask about dairy or soy free because I only eat gluten free. I will inquire next time I go, but I am sure Sarah will beat me to it. :-) I don't know how well you can see the menu pictures, but the one picture shows all the available drinks. Send me a PM if you want me to send you the picture so you can see it better.
