Trattoria al Forno Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast - Disney's BoardWalk

Earlier this year, the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast with characters from Tangled and The Little Mermaid was introduced at Trattoria al Forno, a table service restaurant on Disney's BoardWalk.

The Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast includes a plate of pastries for everyone to share, a choice of one starter, and a choice of one entree.  Typically, Disney will substitute Udi's muffins or Kinnikinnick donuts for gluten-filled pastries, but Trattoria al Forno has fresh baked muffins and scones that look incredible.

Gluten free entree options on the allergy-friendly menu include:
  • Italian Scramble - fresh mozzarella, tomato-basil scrambled eggs, and Sunday gravy with roasted potatoes and bacon or sausage
  • Steak & Eggs - oak-grilled steak, cheesy-egg torte, and fonduta with roasted potatoes and crispy onions
  • Golden Frittata - Prosciutto di Parma, piquillo pepper, scallion, and Pecorino Romano cheese with roasted potatoes
Kid's Meals - for guests ages 9 and under
  • Little Royal Breakfast - grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh fruit
  • Lil' Swimmers Delight - egg white omelet with spinach and tomatoes, served with roasted potatoes

Last week, my travel agent and fellow celiac Dana Zificsak from Magical Moments Vacations dined at Trattoria al Forno.  You can check out her Facebook page here, and get a free quote for a magical Disney vacation on her website here.  Her areas of expertise include Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, Aulani, Adventures by Disney, and Universal Orlando Resort.

For starters, Trattoria al Forno offers fruit salad or a berry, yogurt & granola parfait.  Dana's parfait, minus the granola looks delicious

For an entree, she ordered the Golden Frittata with Prosciutto di Parma, piquillo pepper, scallion, and Pecorino Romano cheese with roasted potatoes, which she said was good.

Dana's son, who also eats gluten free, had grilled steak and sausage.  The chef gave him apples instead of the mixed fruit, which he did not want.

Dana had a girls' trip with friends after her family left, and managed to score a last minute reservation for the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast.  The pastries were fresh baked again, and according to Dana, still great.  One of my blog readers was told that they are made with Namaste Foods flour.

For an entree, she had the Two-Eggs Poached Underwater with house-made fennel sausage, Sunday gravy, and Parmesan cheese over golden polenta with a Deanna's gluten free roll instead of the the toasted focaccia.  Dana said she would go back just for this dish, because the gravy and meat all worked together, and it tasted like something her Italian grandmother would make.

It is always a good idea to get a regular menu and an allergy-friendly menu at Disney restaurants, because they often have more gluten free options than listed, or a dish can easily be modified to be made gluten free, like the Two-Eggs Poached Underwater.

Dana's pictures and reviews, and the fact that it's her new favorite Disney breakfast now, have convinced me that we need to dine at Trattoria al Forno for breakfast again the next time we are at Disney World.  She was told that gluten free Mickey waffles are not available, but some of my blog readers have been told that they are still an option.

December 3, 2017 Update

Because of the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast, it is very difficult to make advance dining reservations for breakfast at Trattoria al Forno, but we stopped in during our stay at Disney's BoardWalk Villas, and learned that they also have an a la carte menu and tables available inside and outside for walk-ins.  We ended up not eating there, but it is nice to know we have that option.

You can read more about Trattoria al Forno, view their menus and hours, and make advance dining reservations on their website here.

A big thank you to Dana from Magical Moments Vacations for sharing her pictures and reviews of her dining experiences at Trattoria al Forno for breakfast.

What are your favorite gluten free options at Trattoria al Forno?
