Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. - Universal CityWalk

A couple of weeks ago, I stopped at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. on CityWalk to check out their gluten free menu.  Bubba Gump is a Landry's restaurant, like Rainforest Cafe, T-Rex, and Yak & Yeti at Disney World.

Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Restaurant & Market is a seafood restaurant chain inspired by the movie Forrest Gump.  You can view their list of locations here.

The Bubba Gump in Orlando is located at the entrance to Universal's CityWalk, and features a gluten free menu, which includes the following dishes:

Appetizers - traditional shrimp cocktail

Salads - classic chicken Caesar salad, pear & berry salad

Forrest's Favorites - accidental fish & shrimp, shrimp & veggie skewers, salmon & veggie skillet

Sides - steamed broccoli, jasmine rice

Kids - kid's grilled chicken

Hopefully in the future, Bubba Gump will have some gluten free dessert options, but you can always head over to Menchie's Frozen Yogurt on CityWalk after you dine.

I became interested in eating at Bubba Gump after reading some great reviews in my private Facebook group, Gluten Free in Orlando.

Jennifer recommends the accidental fish & shrimp, which is broiled Mahi Mahi served over a bed of jasmine rice with grilled shrimp, a lemon butter sauce, and roma tomatoes.  Doesn't that look delicious?  This is definitely the dish I hope to be trying very soon.

Trudy, another member of the group, says that Bubba Gump has become one of the chains she looks for when she travels.  She described her Mahi Mahi in the accidental fish & shrimp as cooked perfectly (moist and flaky), with a light, but complimentary seasoning, and the shrimp had a nice little kick to them.  Both she and her kids, like Jennifer, really enjoyed the rice that is served with this dish.  You can read more about Trudy's experiences at Bubba Gump here.  If you are not a member of Gluten Free in Orlando, please request to join.  I created the group as a forum for locals and visitors to share their gluten free dining experiences in Orlando.

A big thank you to Jennifer and Trudy for sharing their reviews.  I hope to add my own to this blog post within the next couple of weeks.

March 18, 2015 Update

Jennifer recently tried the shrimp & veggie skewers with jasmine rice and lemon garlic sauce.  She said the manager brought her food out to the table separately, and that she enjoyed the dish.  I am going to have a really hard time deciding what meal I want to order when we go to Bubba Gump Saturday.

March 22, 2015 Update

Last night, we had dinner at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. with friends.

I decided to order the Accidental Fish & Shrimp.  My broiled Mahi Mahi was cooked well, but some bites were a little too salty for me, and I consider myself to be a bit of a salt addict.  My favorite part of the dish was the lemon butter, which was so good, I could have licked it off my plate.  I tried to make sure every bite of Mahi Mahi, shrimp and rice had a little bit of that delicious butter on it.  Overall, except for a couple salty bites of Mahi Mahi, I really enjoyed my meal.  It was delivered to our table separately from the rest of our food, by what looked to be a manager.

What are your favorite gluten free dishes at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.?

  1. FYI we have also been able to get a bucket of clams as a gluten free meal for my daughter at Bubba Gump's in Maui and CityWalk. It is one of her favorite things to eat when we are near a Bubba Gump's
