Capt. Cook's - Disney's Polynesian Village Resort

Today, I had lunch at Capt. Cook's, a quick service restaurant at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort.

The new gluten free menu at Captain Cook's lists the following options:

Breakfast

Entrees - gluten free waffles with bacon or sausage; scrambled eggs, potatoes, and bacon or sausage; bounty platter with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, and gluten free waffles

Kid's Meals - gluten free waffles with bacon or sausage; scrambled eggs, potatoes, and bacon or sausage; egg white and ham scramble with fruit and yogurt

Lunch/Dinner

Entrees - chicken tenders with french fries; chicken plate with grilled chicken breast, seasonal vegetables, and rice; hamburger or cheeseburger on a gluten free bun with french fries

Kid's Meals - chicken tenders with grapes, carrots, applesauce, or french fries; chicken and pineapple skewers with side salad and grapes; hamburger or cheeseburger served on a gluten free bun with grapes, carrots, applesauce, or french fries

The gluten free menu was given to me by a cashier, who suggested I speak to a manager before ordering.  I watched the manager oversee the preparation of my food while I waited.

I ended up ordering the chicken plate with grilled chicken breast, seasonal vegetables, and rice.  I asked for a side of gluten free soy sauce, because I was worried the chicken might be a little tasteless after the manager told me it is only seasoned with salt and pepper.

I felt like I ate a pretty healthy lunch, the vegetables and chicken were cooked well, and the portion size was perfect.  I liked my meal, but found myself wishing the chicken and pineapple skewers were on the adult menu.  If this dish had been served with some gluten free teriyaki sauce, it would have been a lot more flavorful.

Capt. Cook's didn't have any gluten free dessert options listed on their menu, and I didn't spot anything besides fruit and ice cream bars in the restaurant, so I walked outside to the Pineapple Lanai to have a Dole Whip.

I ordered a pineapple and vanilla Dole Whip soft serve swirl.  It was so delicious, I will be ordering my Dole Whip this way at Aloha Isle in the Magic Kingdom from now on.  You can read more about Dole Whip here.
