Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo - Disney's Hollywood Studios

On our recent trip to Disney World, I went to Disney's Hollywood Studios on the day it reopened with my daughters and my nieces.

We decided to have lunch at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo, a quick service restaurant in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.

I mobile ordered lunch for the girls in the My Disney Experience app, but the only gluten-friendly item listed was the Roasted Endorian Chicken Salad, which I did not want to order, because I do not like ranch dressing.

While I was in the app, I also looked at gluten-friendly options on Docking Bay 7's breakfast menu. If you have celiac, I suggest you talk to a chef before ordering the Tuggs' Overnight Oats. I have never found a restaurant at Disney that uses certified gluten free oats.

When we arrived at the restaurant, I asked to speak to a manager about gluten free options, because I knew from previous visits, that other dishes on the menu could be modified to be gluten free. The manager took me inside the restaurant and brought out a chef for me to speak to. He recommended the Felucian Kefta and Hummus garden spread, minus the pita. The chef said he was also able to modify the pot roast to be gluten free, with different sides and no gravy.

I ended up choosing the Smoked Kaadu Pork Ribs after the chef said the sauce was slightly sweet and spicy, a combo I love. The cabbage slaw it is served with is gluten free, and not mayonnaise based. It had a nice vinegar based dressing on it that I enjoyed. The ribs were good, but I definitely had to pick through a lot of small bones while eating them with a fork and a knife.

The blueberry corn muffin the ribs are usually served with is not gluten free, so I chose a side of vegetable mashed potatoes instead. The mashed potatoes contained peas and corn, and they were the perfect side to eat with my ribs.

As I mentioned before, I mobile ordered for the girls, but could have ordered their food when I placed my order inside the restaurant. Three of the girls ordered the Endorian Fried Chicken Tip Yip, which is not gluten free, and really enjoyed it. My daughter Emma ordered the Batuuan Beef Pot Roast, but thought it was just ok, because it did not have enough sauce on it. She did not order the gluten free version without gravy. The chef told me that if I ordered the pot roast, he would add some pan drippings to it to replace the gravy.

We were happy with the social distancing of the tables inside Docking Bay 7, and we observed cast members cleaning neighboring tables after other guests left. Both tables and chairs were wiped down well between parties.

During the pandemic, menus at Disney World restaurants are limited. I never had trouble finding something to eat, but it was disappointing at times to see favorite menu items disappear. When we dined at Docking Bay 7 over Thanksgiving Break, I ordered the Surabat Shrimp & Noodle Salad with chilled shrimp, marinated sweet potato noodles, and vegetables.

I enjoyed this dish, but much preferred the version I had at Disneyland last fall, because it had a sweeter sauce on it. I was really disappointed that I was not able to eat the Outpost Popcorn Mix at Star War's Galaxy's Edge, because of closures. This is my favorite popcorn at Disney World, with the maple popcorn at the Canada Pavilion in Epcot coming in a close second. I love the mix of the sweet blueberry lemon popcorn with the spicier red chili lime. Hopefully, Kat Saka's Kettle will be open again later this year when we return to Disney World.

Overall, we had a magical trip to Disney World, and it was great to spend time with family, and not have to cook for two weeks. We also loved the low crowd levels, and short wait times for attractions.
