Jiko - Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge

Last weekend, we stopped at Jiko to have a look at their gluten free menu after having lunch at Sanaa.

Jiko - The Cooking Place is a signature dining restaurant located in Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge.  The food at Jiko is a blend of African, Indian and Mediterranean cuisine.

I have eaten at Jiko before and enjoyed it, but that was a couple of years before I started my blog.  I hope to go back again soon to try some of the incredible looking options on their gluten free menu.

Jiko's menu changes seasonally, but currently offers the following gluten free dishes:

Appetizers

  • Jiko Salad - poached pears, heirloom spinach, kabocha squash, and pear vinaigrette with pumpkin seeds and black lentil brittle
  • Grilled Wild Boar Tenderloin - mealie pap, chakalaka, truffle oil, and micro cilantro
  • Beetroot Salad - petit greens, crispy pancetta, and sherry vinaigrette
  • North African Carrot Soup - sweet potatoes, ginger, Pink Lady apples, and black garlic ice cream
  • Caren's Durban Seafood Curry - mussels, shrimp, scallops, with pineapple-coconut curry
Entrees
  • Botswana-style Seswaa Beef Short Ribs - cassava-potato puree, sambal, and mushrooms
  • Nigerian-spiced Berkshire Double-cut Pork Chop - braised greens, roasted potatoes, and apple butter
  • Lamb Two Ways - winter vegetables, pumpkin seed duqqa, and mango demi-glace
  • Senegal Scallops - black-eyed pea salad, heirloom tomatoes, and roasted seafood demi-glace
  • Oak-grilled Filet Mignon - local green beans, spoon bread souffle, and South African red wine reduction
  • Maize-crusted Snapper - vegetables of the moment and tomato-butter sauce
Desserts
  • Coconut Milk Panna Cotta - mixed berries
  • Ghanaian Chocolate and Kenyan Coffee Pot de Creme - almond creme with almond crunch and raspberries

You can read more about Jiko, view their dinner menu, and make advance dining reservations on Disney's website here.
