P.F. Chang's China Bistro

When we lived in Pittsburgh, in my pre-Celiac days, we ate Chinese food with my aunt and uncle every Friday night.  When we moved to Orlando, right after my diagnosis, I was happy to discover that both P.F. Chang's and Pei Wei had a gluten free menu, and some of my favorite dishes were on it.

P.F. Chang's gluten free menu is extensive.  It is posted on the outside of their restaurant and is included as part of the regular menu given to all customers.  You can view an online version here

Yesterday, I was really interested in trying one of their seasonal dishes I had seen on Facebook, the Harvest Vegetable Quinoa "Fried Rice."  It is described as wok-toasted red quinoa with spiced butternut squash, Brussels sprouts, wok-charred corn, snap peas, carrots, zucchini and diced green apples, topped with a sunny-side egg.  It is available gluten free for an additional $1.

This picture does not do it justice.  Our waitress decided to stir in the egg before I was able to get a picture.  Overall, I found this to be a very good dish. The only thing I didn't love about it is that it wasn't sweet enough.  I have this weird obsession with my Chinese food being sweet, and this was not a sweet dish like I usually order.

My daughters ordered one of my favorites, the GF Chang's Chicken Lettuce Wraps. The chicken mixture is slightly sweet, just like I like my Chinese food, and I love the crunch of the lettuce wraps.

Our friends ordered the one gluten free soup option, the egg drop soup.

They also ordered the GF Mongolian Beef and GF Chang's Spicy Chicken.

Chang's Spicy Chicken and Chang's Chicken Lettuce Wraps were two of my favorite dishes before I was diagnosed with celiac.

Pei Wei Asian Diner is owned by P.F. Chang's China Bistro.  Pei Wei is a counter service restaurant with a more limited menu and cheaper prices.  We have found the food to be more consistent at Pei Wei, but the gluten free menu is much smaller.  You can read about the gluten free options at Pei Wei here.  I usually order the Gluten Free Pei Wei Spicy Shrimp, which contains wok seared shrimp, chile vinegar sauce, scallions, garlic, snap peas, and carrots.  I change up the veggies a bit and order it with brown rice. It is the perfect combination of spicy and sweet for me, and the sauce is great on the rice and vegetables.  I also like their gluten free Pei Wei Spicy Chicken, which is almost exactly like the Chang's Spicy Chicken at P.F. Chang's, but it is usually better.  P.F. Chang's doesn't have Chang's Spicy Shrimp on their menu, but they will usually make it for you if you ask.

What are your favorite gluten free dishes at P.F. Chang's?
