Splitsville - Downtown Disney

Not wanting to go into the parks today, we decided to go to Splitsville in Downtown Disney.  I was really impressed with the facilities. It's certainly the nicest bowling alley I have ever been in!  It was super clean and had a retro feel.  We were prepared to wait to play, because when we stopped by in January, we were told the wait could be up to an hour or two depending on the time of day.  When we arrived around 3:00, we were assigned a lane right away.  Bowling at Splitsville on a Saturday cost us $20 per person, and we had our lane for an hour with only 3 people bowling.  The shoes were included in the price.

Our server appeared right away to introduce himself and take our drink order.  One of the first things he asked was if anyone in our party had a food allergy.  When I mentioned gluten, he said he would get me a GF menu.  Things were off to a good start.  The first menu he gave me was disappointing, and I had decided to eat later.  Then, he came back with a newer menu with more options.

This was the best picture I could take with the lighting.  Like my cell phone shadow?

The newer menu included gluten free buns, fewer restrictions on certain items, and a salmon dish that I decided would be a nice healthy choice, plus I happen to really like salmon.  Portion wise -- this was a large plate of food!  I enjoyed the salmon, rice, and broccoli, but didn't love it.  This being my first food review on my blog, I had to decide how to rate my food.  Being a teacher by trade, I decided on letter grades.  Overall, I would give this meal a "B". The salmon and broccoli were cooked perfectly, but I wasn't in love with the sauce on the salmon or the seasoning on the broccoli.

We passed on dessert because the skies were looking ominous.  Sorry, I didn't think to ask if there were gluten free dessert options.

Overall, we had a lot of fun and would definitely go back to bowl. I'm not sure if we would eat there again, because I like some other restaurants in Downtown Disney better.  Gluten free fish and chips, onion rings, and garlic Parmesan fries are enough to lure me away to Cookes of Dublin.  My daughters really enjoyed their BBQ pulled pork sandwich and fries.  My husband's plate of Super Tuna was impressive looking, but he didn't love it, because he likes his sushi more simple and traditional.

For information on Splitsville's facilities and pricing, you can use this link.  Game times vary depending on the size of your party.  Weekdays until 4:00, the price is $15 per person.

Update -- We returned to Splitsville in November and they have an awesome new gluten free menu.  You can check out my latest review here.
