Woody's Lunch Box - Disney's Hollywood Studios

In July, we had a chance to visit Toy Story Land at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Because we stayed at Disney's Wilderness Lodge and Bay Lake Tower, we were able to take advantage of the Extra Magic Hour that was being offered every morning from 7:00 to 8:00 am.

We did have FastPasses for the three attractions in Toy Story Land, but they were all on different days, so we decided to suck it up, get up super early, and see if we could ride everything in one morning, so we did not have to visit Hollywood Studios more than once or twice during our vacation.

Slinky Dog Dash is my new favorite attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios. There were no huge hills, but there were a lot of twists and turns, so it was my kind of roller coaster. If you like to ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, you will love Slinky Dog Dash.

Thankfully, because we entered Toy Story Land around 6:50, we only had a 15 minute wait for Slinky Dog Dash, then we were able to walk right on Alien Swirling Saucers.

My girls and I enjoyed this ride, which reminded us of Mater's Junkyard Jamboree in Disney California Adventure Park at Disneyland.

After breakfast at Woody's Lunch Box, we were able to ride Toy Story Mania before our Extra Magic Hour was even over.  I don't particularly enjoy getting up early while we are on vacation, but it was definitely worth it.

Woody's Lunch Box is the new quick service restaurant in Toy Story Land. The sign mentions mobile ordering, but if you have a special diet, you will have to wait in line to place your order.

Thankfully, because we arrived so early, there was no wait, but we did see long lines later in the day.

At this time, Woody's Lunch Box does not have an allergy-friendly menu, so a manager came out to speak to me about gluten free options.

On the breakfast menu, the s'more sandwich, breakfast bowl (no gravy), smoked turkey breakfast sandwich, and the banana split yogurt parfait (no granola) can be modified to be gluten free. No Disney restaurant that I know of uses certified gluten free oats, so be careful with oatmeal and granola, even if they are listed on an allergy-friendly menu as safe for wheat/gluten allergies.

For lunch and dinner, I have heard that all the sandwiches can be made on Udi's gluten free bread, and the totchos can be modified to be gluten free too. Woody's Lunch Box has Angry Orchard Crisp Apple Hard Cider on tap, and the manager I spoke to said the soft serve used in the ice cream float is gluten free.

We lived in Orlando for eight years before we moved to California, where our daytime highs are seldom over 80 degrees. We miss living in Orlando, but we do not miss the summer heat, that began in the spring, and stretched into the fall. Woody's Lunch Box only offers outdoor seating, which would definitely prevent me from dining there when it is too hot, but thankfully, because we were there so early, it was bearable.

My food only took about ten minutes to prepare. I decided to order both the s'more sandwich and the breakfast bowl, which I shared with my family.

The s'more sandwich is marshmallow and chocolate ganache on gluten free bread. It was quite sweet for me for a breakfast dish, but I enjoyed it, mainly because I was able to alternate between having a bite of my s'more sandwich, and a bite of my breakfast bowl, which contained potato barrels and scrambled eggs.

The tater tots, aka potato barrels, at Woody's Lunch Box are all baked, so sadly, they are not very crispy, but I enjoyed them with the scrambled eggs. I ordered my breakfast bowl without green onions and gravy, which is not gluten free.

I had hoped to try Woody's Lunch Box for lunch or dinner too, but we never had a chance on this trip.

October 7, 2018 Update

This weekend, my friend Debbie from Finn Family Gluten Free Fun ate at Woody's Lunch Box. She said that the totchos were her new favorite thing at Disney, and that the grilled cheese was very good too. I asked about the potato barrels in the totchos, and was excited to hear that hers were super crispy. The totchos are potato barrels topped with chili, shredded cheese, queso, tomatoes, corn chips, sour cream, and green onions. When you order the totchos gluten free, vegan chili is used instead of the beef and bean chili.
