The cake, which costs $5.99, has an allergen warning that it contains milk, egg, and soy, and may contain traces of almond, hazelnut, and walnut. It is not a large cake, but it would probably serve 4 to 6 people.
Two of my blog readers told me how amazing this cake is, and I have to agree with them. It was moist, and had lots of flavor from the cranberries and orange. Not only does this cake have ricotta cheese in it, which I love in baked goods, but it also has a delicious cream cheese icing that is not overly sweet.
This would be a great dessert to take to a party, and I don't think anyone would know that it is gluten free unless you told them. My daughters were reluctant to try the cake, because of the cranberries, but they both liked it. My husband's words after his first bite - "it is phenomenal."
While you are at Trader Joe's, be sure to pick up another seasonal item, their Gluten Free Candy Cane Joe-Joe's, which my gluten-eating daughters feel are as good as mint Oreos.
